India beat Sri Lanka by 10 wickets and have been crowned the champions of the Asia Cup. This is India’s 8th time winning the continental tournament and this is the 6th time they have beaten Sri Lanka in the finals of the Asia Cup. 

After electing to bat first, Sri Lanka were bowled out for only 50 runs. Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah gave an electrifying start to India after picking up 6 wickets in the powerplay. In the 4th over of the match, Siraj picked up 4 wickets and got his fifth wicket in the very next over. Siraj finished the innings with a figure of 6/21. Burmah picked up one wicket while Hardik Pandya got 3 wickets. 

Chasing a measly 51, Indian openers Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan were sent in to bat, as captain Rohit Sharma opted to not open the innings. Kishan scored 23 off 18 balls and Gill scored 27. They chased down the total in 5.1 overs, with Kishan hitting the final runs for India.

Indian fans overjoyed by Asia Cup triumph

2 days after losing to Bangladesh in the Super 4 stage, India dominated the finals and won the finals. A beautiful spell by Mohammed Siraj while being supported by Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya restricted Sri Lanka to only 50 runs. After chasing the target in only 5 overs, India were crowned the champions of the tournament.

Indian fans couldn’t hold back their happiness after they won the finals, with many expressing their joy on X. Many fans are now confident for the upcoming 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, with fans sure they are favorites to win the tournament. 

Other fans couldn’t stop heaping praise on Mohammed Siraj, saying his spell was one of the best they have ever seen. Many were just stunned by how quickly the game got finished, with the game only lasting for 20.2 overs or 122 balls.

India will now face Australia in a 3 match ODI series. A few days after the series India will start their 2023 ICC ODI Men’s World Cup campaign. They will face Australia on 8th October for their first match.
