India Women bagged the gold medals in the 2023 Asian Games by beating Sri Lanka Women by 19 runs on Monday (September 25) at the ZJUT Cricket Field, in Hangzhou, China. Sri Lanka failed to chase down a paltry 117 runs, thanks to bowler Titas Sadhu.
India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to bat first. However, the watchers of the game thought the decision backfired as India could post just 116/7 in their 20 overs. From India, opener Smriti Mandhana top scored with 46 runs off 45 balls, followed by Jemimah Rodrigues‘ 42 runs from 40 balls.
Indian fans started predicting a disappointing defeat for the Indian team. But Titas Sadhu turned the table in India’s favor by breaking Sri Lanka’s back, and before the Powerplay, Sadhu sent three Sri Lankan batters to packing.
Sadhu first got rid of opener Anushka Sanjeewani on the first ball of the third over before dismissing Vishni Gunaratne on the fourth ball. Chamari Athapathtu became her third victim in the fifth over.
After the three wickets, Hasini Perera and Nilakshi de Silva tried to steady the innings but in vain. They soon headed toward the dugout after scoring 20-plus runs each. All they could score was a mere 97 runs for eight wickets in their 20 overs and lost the match by 19 runs.
Netizens praise India-W for clinching gold in the 2023 Asian Games
Indian fans’ hearts swelled with pride after India’s easy victory in the 2023 Asian Games. Though the target disappointed them, the comeback from the bowling unit did not fail to impress them.

Before facing Sri Lanka, India thrashed Bangladesh in the semi-final by eight wickets. In the quarter-final, India faced Malaysia but the match ended with no result. Also, India played the two matches without skipper Harmanpreet Kaur as she faced a two-match ban due to her on-field conduct during the ODI series against Bangladesh. But she returned for the final and captained the side to victory.
