India and Pakistan faced for the first time this year in the ongoing 2023 Asia Cup on Saturday (September 2) at the Pallekele Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Though India, despite rain hindrances, were able to complete their innings, Pakistan couldn’t even start their run chase due to the heavy downpour.
India, with the help of Ishan Kishan’s 82 off 81 and Hardik Pandya‘s 87 off 90 powered India to a decent 266 in 48.5 overs. From Pakistan bowlers, Shaheen Shah Afridi ran riot and broke India’s back by dismissing Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Haris Rauf also compounded India’s miseries by getting rid of Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer in the early overs. But Pandya’s and Kishan’s 138-run stand shifted the momentum toward India until the Pakistani pace attack in the final overs triggered further collapse.
While Afridi dismissed four batters, both Rauf and Naseem Shah sent six batters to the dugout. Jasprit Bumrah’s cameo in the final overs was also wonderful. Both India and Pakistan shared a point.

Indian fans were waiting to see how the Pakistani top-order plays Jasprit Bumrah. The netizens from India, on the other hand, were desperate to give a befitting reply to Pakistan fans’ “They can’t play him” tweet. “They” refers to Indian batters and “him” is Shaheen Shah Afridi.
But alas! The match ended without a single delivery bowled in the second innings to Pakistan. Seizing the opportunity, Indian fans, also some ex-cricketers pulled their neighbors’ legs, saying that rain saved them from another agonizing defeat against the Men in Blue.
