“India’s new mystery spinner” – Twitter reacts to Maya Sonawane’s unique bowling action in Women’s T20 challenge

Velocity’s Maya Sonawane has got the internet’s attention with her unique bowling action. The 23 year old is a leg spinner but her action is quite simulate to that of South Africa’s Paul Adams. Bowling from right over her head, the 23 year’s action invited her bending forwards, almost touching the ground as she bowls the ball to the batsman.

Although Maya Sonawane has a difficult start to the Women’s T20 challenge, getting hit for 19 runs in her 2 overs, Velocity eventually won thanks to some classy batting by Shafali Verma and Laura Wolvaardt. Maya enjoyed a good run in Women’s T20 trophy, representing Maharashtra. Moreover, she has also been forming for India A team at the international stage. Here’s Twitter’s take on her action.

Velocity will face the Trailblazers next on 26th May Thursday at the MCS stadium in Pune. A win for velocity means that they will play in the finals of the Women’s T20 challenge this year. However, of they lose, then the finalists may be decided based on Net Run Rate for the 3 teams involved.
