The Chief Selector for the Pakistan’s Men team, Inzamam-ul-Haq, announced Pakistan’s squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup. He named the 15 players and 3 traveling reserves that will travel to India to compete in the quadrennial tournament.
When the press started to ask questions regarding the 15-man squad, one reporter asked Inzamam about Pakistan’s woes with their spinners. He compared Pakistan’s spinners, Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan, to Indian chinaman, Kuldeep Yadav. He listed down stats and compared the two of them with Kuldeep Yadav.
Inzamam-ul-Haq just replied with a witty one liner. He said, “Aapne ekdum sahi stats nikaale hain, par Kuldeep Yadav ko main select nahi kar sakta, (Whatever you said is correct, but we can’t select Kuldeep Yadav).” He then justified the selection of the spin due and also spoke about how they selected another spinner, Usama Mir. “Kuldeep plays for another team. We have selected Nawaz and Shadab for continuity. Yes, they haven’t been up to mark, but we expect them to perform well in the World Cup. If they don’t, we still have Usama Mir,” said Inzaman.

Naseem Shah misses out on the World Cup due to injury
Naseem Shah injured his right shoulder during the 2023 ODI World Cup. He had missed the last few matches of the 2023 Lanka Premier League as a precaution as he felt discomfort on his shoulder.
After the match against India in the 2023 Asia Cup, Naseem was ruled out of the tournament. He was replaced by Zaman Khan for their match against Sri Lanka. There was hope that he could play in the World Cup, but now that isn’t possible as he had been ruled out of the World Cup as well.
Inzamam-ul-Haq had selected pacer Hasan Ali as Naseem’s replacement. Hasan was a part of Pakistan’s squad in the 2019 ODI World Cup squad. He last featured in an ODI in June 2022.
