The mini-auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 was held in Kochi on Friday (December 23). The 10 franchises had gone to war to fill up their remaining slots. A total of 87 slots were available, out of which 30 were for overseas players. Josh Little became the first Irish player to get an IPL contract. Sunrisers Hyderabad had the biggest purse of Rs 42.25 crore, while Kolkata Knight Riders had only Rs. 7.05 crore.

Punjab Kings sealed English all-rounder Sam Curran‘s services for IPL 2023 by purchasing him for a whopping 18.50. This made him the costliest player ever in the history of IPL auctions. The English all-rounder was part of the T20 World Cup-winning team in 2022. His Player of the Match performance along with Ben Stokes‘ fighting knock helped England beat Pakistan by five wickets at the MCG in Melbourne. Curran was also the Player of the Series in the T20 World Cup.

Five-time winner Mumbai Indians secured the services of Aussie all-rounder Cameron Green for IPL 2023, by signing him for 17.50. Now he is the second-most expensive player in IPL history. Stokes broke his own record by getting purchased by four-time champions Chennai Super Kings for a staggering 16.25.
