IPL 2023: Who will replace Rishabh Pant as Delhi Capitals’ skipper?
The recent reports suggested that Warner can lead the team with the wicketkeeping duties to be given to Sarfaraz Khan.
David Warner; Rishabh Pant
After Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant‘s horrific car crash, the franchise are likely to hand over the captaincy reins to Australian opener David Warner in the Indian Premier Leagues (IPL) 2023. The recent reports suggested that Warner can lead the team with the wicketkeeping duties to be given to Sarfaraz Khan.
“Rishabh Pant has been the mainstay of the middle order. David Warner has the experience of leading IPL teams. The management will speak to him. The middle order needs an impactful batter now. Sarfaraz Khan will be asked to keep wickets if the combination asks for it. Meanwhile, the team will be looking for a domestic wicketkeeper or a strong batter,” a source close to DC told TOI.
Pant has been hospitalized at the Max Hospital in Dehradun. He was visiting his hometown in Roorkee when his car hit the divider before getting burned in the fire. Pant somehow got out of the car and with the assistance of a few men, then he was rushed to a nearby hospital before he was shifted to the hospital in Dehradun.
Pant was appointed DC’s skipper ahead of the 2021 season. DC had a phenomenal season under his leadership as they were the table-toppers. But they lost to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Qualifier 2. Although DC never won the IPL trophy, they made it to the final in 2020 but Mumbai Indians defeated them by five wickets.

David Warner has led an IPL team to victory
Warner was made the skipper of SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2015. Next year, he led the team to its first-ever title by beating Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the final. It’s the only trophy SRH ever won in the cash-rich league.
But he was unceremoniously sacked as SRH skipper in IPL 2021. Ahead of IPL 2022, Warner wasn’t even retained by SRH and DC signed him for INR 6.25 crore.
