The Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals has gone global as they announce their two sister teams for the T20 leagues in UAE and South Africa on Tuesday, July 16. This also for the first time that the Capitals will go global.
IPL had gone global when Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals had bought teams in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). IPL franchises have now bought six teams in South Africa’s new league. The league’s inaugural season is scheduled to begin on January 2023.
The Capitals took to their offical social media handles to share the news with the fans. They shared the post with the caption:
“The DC Universe grows. The Capitals Family goes global. It gives us great pleasure to present the ‘Dubai Capitals’ and the ‘Pretoria Capitals’ @gmr_sports @jsw_sports #ILT20 #CSAT20League @uaecricketofficial @cricket_south_africa.”

Delhi Capitals still waiting for maiden IPL title
Last season, the Rishabh Pant-led Capitals finished fifth in the points table. They still have not got any titles under their name since the inception of IPL in 2008. They will be aiming for more in the next season under the guidance of head-coach Ricky Ponting.
2020 was their best season when they reached the final. But the five-time champions Mumbai Indians defeated them by five wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
GMR inititally owned the franchise. But in 2018, they sold a 50% stake in the Delhi Daredevils to JSW Sports. They then changed the name of the franchise from Delhi Daredevils to the Delhi Capitals.
