After alleged news of Mumbai Indians offering Jofra Archer a full-time contract, reports suggest that Rajasthan Royals are set to offer England’s white-ball captain, Jos Buttler a four-year multi-million deal. Buttler was picked up by the Royals in 2018 and has played 72 matches for them since then. He also plays for RR’s international franchises such as the Paarl Royals in SA20.

Buttler was the orange cap winner in 2022 where he scored 863 runs in 17 matches at a strike-rate of 149. Contrastingly, in IPL 2023 he made the record for most ducks by a batter and scored 392 runs in 14 games. Overall, in his IPL career for RR, he has scored 3,240 runs at an average of 42.13 and a healthy strike rate of 148.79.

Will Jos Buttler take the deal?

While it is being said that Rajasthan Royals will be offering a four-year contract which will be a lucrative multi-million affair, there is no indication of the T20 World Cup winning-captain accepting the offer. It will be interesting to see if Jos Buttler will consider the offer and prioritize the IPL over his central contract for England.

One of the best batters of the shortest format and a vital wicketkeeper-batsman in any team, England will look to hold back its key players such as Jos Buttler himself after the Jofra Archer-MI scare. The IPL is portrayed as one of the best things to happen to cricket in terms of opportunity and talent but will it become more important than playing for your nation? Time will tell.
