IPL owners want to sign world’s best players to 12-month contracts
IPL
Venky Mysore, the chief executive of Kolkata Knight Riders has revealed that India Premier League franchises want to contract players for 12 months a year for different teams. Kolkata Knight Riders have now four teams- their flagship IPL franchise, Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League, International League T20 in UAE, and Major League Cricket in the US. The last two ones will launch in the next year. Under this plan, Andre Russell, who plays for KKR, will then play for KKR owned franchise in CPL as well.
One of the barriers to this is that different leagues use different recruitment rules. If players get under the same umbrella in different leagues, then it will allow for greater continuity, allowing their highest-profile players to play across leagues.
“If it happened that way, at some point in the future, that’d be great. What we want to create is a common platform and a system and a culture that allows us to participate around the year – enhancing our brand, building our fan base, and providing opportunities to cricketers around the world. And in the process, you build hopefully a successful business around it,” Mysore said.

“If it all comes together, it’d be terrific”- Venky Mysore
Venky Mysore then added that they have discussed about the same with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and that the cricketing board is thinking about the same and is figuring it out in some way. He also believes that this can give chance to some players who aren’t given a chance in the IPL.
“Certainly we’re hoping that will happen at some point in the future,” Mysore said. “When we broach this topic the BCCI say, ‘yeah, we have to figure out how to do something’. I think they have an open mind. But they need to figure out what’s best for Indian cricket and for Indian players. That’s how they would be thinking about it, which is fair enough. Some very good minds there would be applying their minds to this idea. If it all comes together, it’d be terrific.
