Before the 2023 Asia Cup, India under Jasprit Bumrah toured Ireland for a three-match T20I series. The Men in Blue secured the victory in the series by 2-0 and days after its conclusion, the Ireland Cricket board issued an apology for inadvertently displaying inappropriate advertisements at the Malahide stadium.
As per a report published by Cricbuzz, Cricket Ireland sold the ground rights to a commercial agency in India, the agency had control over signing third-party brands for advertising and other ground-related equipment such as on-pitch mats and replay screens.
The controversy started after a report published by The Irish Times stated that one of the companies, 1XBet was suspended by UK Gambling Commission in 2019 due to its sexual content. When a parent contacted Sports Ireland over the same, the development agency then made Cricket Ireland aware of the issue and then came their apologies.
“We do accept that the associated imagery used by the brands on their websites are not in keeping with the values of Cricket Ireland and we unreservedly apologize for any offense inadvertently caused,” Cricbuzz quoted Cricket Ireland spokesman as saying. CA also confirmed that it will write to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) out of courtesy.
