Australian legend Ricky Ponting has been a long-standing head coach for the Delhi Capitals (DC) of the Indian Premier League (IPL). As the Capitals have never won a title, former Indian pacer Irfan Pathan took a dig at Ponting for his inability to solve the middle-order issues.
DC were the runners-up in the 2020 IPL but had a pretty poor campaign last year as they languished at the ninth position on the points table. There are rumors of DC releasing Prithvi Shaw as he had a below-par season last year and got injured this year while playing county cricket in England. Rishabh Pant, who used to captain the side injured himself last December in a car accident and is yet to make his comeback to competitive cricket.
Pathan was asked about DC’s possible plans regarding backups for Shaw and Pant to which he said they are indeed searching for players. He then addressed DC’s middle-order problems and criticized Ponting.
What I am surprised about with the Delhi Capitals is that they have had one coach for many years, Ricky Ponting, and they haven't got the result. Despite that, they have given him a free hand and still, he is not able to find guys in the middle order who can finish games.Pathan said on Star Sports
Rishabh Pant provides major fitness update
After that car crash in December last year, Rishabh Pant suffered various injuries but thankfully he is quickly recovering. Since that incident, Pant missed important tournaments in 2023, like the IPL, World Test Championships (WTC), and the ODI World Cup.
He often provides updates on his fitness and drops videos of training on his social media handles. The youngster has now shared a video of him working in the gym.
Here’s the video:
In all possibilities, Pant will play in IPL 2024 as DC team director Sourav Ganguly confirmed it. A month ago he joined teammates during a training camp at Jadavpur University Salt Lake Campus pitch.
