Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has suggested that Delhi Capitals’ Director of Cricket, Sourav Ganguly should take over as the head coach position, replacing Ricky Ponting. Pathan’s comments come in the light of Delhi Capitals horror show in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The David Warner-led team stand eliminated of IPL 2023 with eight defeats in 12 games so far.

DC started their campaign with five consecutive defeats. Although they turned things around with four wins in the next five games, Delhi Capitals lost their next two matches to see their way out of IPL 2023. With DC failing to put up a fight, questions are being raised on the management’s role, especially head coach Ricky Ponting.

Amid all the talks, Irfan Pathan has come up with a suggestion that he thinks can help turn things around for DC in the next few seasons if not this year. Pathan wants Ganguly to take over the head coach role as the former India captain is more suited for the job in Pathan’s opinion.

“He knows how to run the dressing room”

Irfan Pathan believes that Ganguly knows the psyche of the players better than Ponting and hence will be able to run the dressing room better. The former India all-rounder also mentioned David Warner’s comments about preparing for next season.

“Sourav Ganguly’s presence in the Delhi dugout is a big deal. I think if Dada is given the responsibility of coach as well, he can make a big difference in this team. Dada has knowledge of the psychology of Indian players. He knows how to run the dressing room and Delhi should definitely take advantage of that,” Pathan said to Star Sports.

“At the time of the toss, Warner has said that his team has now started preparing for the next season and in this context, it would not be wrong to see Ganguly in a changed role,” added Pathan.
