Is MS Dhoni playing with injury? Stephen Fleming gives major update after defeat against Rajasthan
Fleming revealed that Dhoni is nursing a knee injury.
MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a defeat against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at their home ground on Wednesday. The four-time champions failed to chase 173 and fell short of the target by four runs. It was CSK’s first-ever defeat at Chepauk in the last ten years against a team other than Mumbai Indians. Also, this was the first time after 2008 that Rajasthan Royals beat CSK at Chepauk.
While history was scripted for RR, CSK fans went back disappointed as MS Dhoni could not finish it off in style. The CSK skipper played a blazing knock (32* off 17) but could not propel the team over the line. While it may seem like the last ball bowled by Sandeep Sharma was unhittable, CSK had already lost the match a couple of deliveries before.
On the third delivery of the last over, when 7 runs were needed, Dhoni played a shot in the gap but ran only a single. This came as a surprise for many as the former India captain is known for his running between the wickets. Had Dhoni run a double, the story might have been different.
With something unusual happening in the middle, everyone got curious about the reason behind it. The query was addressed by CSK coach Stephen Fleming at the post-match press conference. Fleming revealed that Dhoni is nursing a knee injury and hence he is being cautious about his running between the wickets.

“He is nursing a knee injury, which you can see in some of his movements. It’s hindering him somewhat. His fitness has always been very professional. He comes a month before the tournament starts. He’s a great player. We have never doubts over him. He’s just amazing,” Fleming said in the press conference.
Sisanda Magala ruled out for couple of weeks
The injury concerns for CSK are only getting worse as their new signee, Sisanda Magala has also been ruled out for a couple of weeks with a split webbing. The South African aggravated his injury during the match against Rajasthan.
