India’s wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan, who played an explosive knock (52* off 34) in the second inning of the second Test against the West Indies gave a reasoned response when he was asked if India are also adopting Bazball. Kishan, while saying that India want to play an aggressive brand of cricket as and when needed, took a cheeky dig at England’s aggressive style of play.

The 25-year-old wicketkeeper batter said that England are playing aggressively in every game because they are getting flat wickets. Kishan then said that he does not understand the philosophy of playing, in the same manner, every game.

“It is not possible that you can play that fast every day, it depends upon the situation also,” he told the reporters after Day five of the second Test match was washed out (via Indian Express). “England are batting quick but you need to see on what kind of pitches they are playing, mostly where we play it is not easy to bat because there is a turn and bounce.

“If the wicket is flat, where you can score quick, and the need of the team is to get runs quickly, then I think you can take on that action. I don’t think it is necessary that we must play in an aggressive manner in every match, but whenever there will be a need of playing attacking cricket, we have got enough firepower in our ranks,” he added.

Ishan Kishan, who could not make the most of the opportunity in his debut Test match, was sent to bat ahead of Virat Kohli in the second inning of the second Test and it augured well for the youngster. Kishan ended up scoring his maiden Test half-century and the 25-year-old could not be thankful enough to Kohli who sacrificed his position for Kishan.

“Was really special. I knew what the team needed from me. Everyone backed me. Virat backed me and told me to go and play your game…It was Virat bhai who took the initiative and told that I should go in,” said Kishan after his knock.
