Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan landed in hot water after ignoring a warning given to them by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about participation in the Ranji Trophy.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah had warned the players to not skip domestic matches for the Indian Premier League (IPL). He said ignoring domestic matches could lead to “severe implications“.

But despite the warning, Kishan and Iyer were still reluctant to join their respective Ranji Trophy teams. And now, a report in The Times of India stated that the BCCI has excluded Kishan and Iyer from the list of centrally contracted players.

The selectors, led by Ajit Agarkar, have almost finalized the list of centrally contracted players for the 2023-24 season too, which the BCCI will announce soon. Kishan and Iyer are likely to be excluded from that list, as both haven't been playing domestic cricket despite the BCCI's diktat to do so.

NCA denies that Shreyas Iyer is injured

According to a report by The Indian Express, Shreyas Iyer informed Mumbai Cricket Association that he was unavailable for selection due to injury. However, the National Cricket Association Head of Sports Science and Medicine, Nitin Patel, wrote an email to the MCA selectors, informing them that Iyer was fit.

Iyer was reportedly dropped from the squad for the ongoing five-match Test series against India after continuous failures.

Ishan Kishan, on the other hand, last played for India in a T20I game against Australia in November 2023. He then withdrew his name from the South Africa Test series in December 2023 due to mental fatigue.

Though India’s head coach Rahul Dravid said Kishan needs to play some cricket for selection, the youngster is yet to make a return. Instead of the Ranji Trophy, he was seen training in Baroda with his Mumbai Indians captain, Hardik Pandya.
