Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant very, unfortunately, met with a horrific car accident in December last year and is still recovering from the same. The left-hander has already missed out on a major chunk of cricket including the all-important WTC Final and the 2023 IPL season.
Pacer Ishant Sharma recently opened up on Pant’s recovery process and whether he will be seen in action anytime soon. Talking on Jio Cinema, Ishant stated that he doesn’t feel Rishabh Pant will recover in time for IPL 2024 even, leaving aside the ODI World Cup. He is happy that Pant is recovering well because he did not undergo a second surgery but believes 100% Pant is many months away.
Ishant Sharma said, “I feel we might not see Rishabh Pant in the next IPL as well because it is not a small injury. It was a very serious accident. The good thing is that he didn’t have a second surgery. If he had undergone a second surgery, he would have been out for even longer. He has had one surgery now but I don’t think he will be fit for the World Cup for sure.”
Rishabh Pant’s road to recovery
The BCCI released a report stating that Rishabh Pant has started his batting and wicket-keeping practice at the NCA in Bangalore. The cricketer also often keeps updating his fans on his health through Instagram stories and posts.
Ahead of the Windies series Pant posted photos with other cricketers he met at the NCA and also posted a video from his gym session where he can be seen lifting weights. While the road to recovery is very long, it is a major positive to see Rishabh Pant back in the nets. He is highly unlikely to play in the ODI World Cup, but IPL 2024 could be the return of Pant.
