“It takes special effort,” Netizens flood Twitter with memes after KKR beat RCB for second time in IPL 2023

Nitish Rana-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the second time in IPL 2023. Kolkata beat RCB by 21 runs on Wednesday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium as the hosts failed to chase 202. Varun Chakravarthy starred for the visitors as the leg-spinner took three wickets at the expense of 27 runs in his four overs.

Suyash Sharma and Andre Russell bagged two wickets each to help KKR restrict RCB to 179/8. Earlier, Jason Roy (56 off 29), Venkatesh Iyer (31 off 26), Nitish Rana (48 off 21), and Rinku Singh (18 off 10) helped KKR post a massive total (200/5) in their 20 overs.

For RCB, Virat Kohli scored a half-century (54 off 37) while Mahipal Lomror (34 off 18) too chipped in. However, other RCB batters failed miserably and hence the team lost. Dinesh Karthik, in particular, was ordinary against spin as well as pace. The RCB wicketkeeper, who is the designated finisher in the team, has failed to live up to the expectations and thus is being heavily criticized by fans.

With KKR beating RCB twice this season and the Nitish Rana-led team losing against other teams, fans started a meme fest on Twitter.

virat kohli on rcb loss

After the defeat to KKR, RCB stand-in skipper Virat Kohli said that the team deserved to lose considering their mediocre performance in the field. Kohli also held the batters responsible for the loss saying they failed to form a partnership.

“To be honest we handed them the game. We did deserve to lose. We handed them a victory. We were certainly not up to standard. If you look at the game, we didn’t capitalize our chances. We dropped a few chances which cost us 25-30 runs,” said Kohli about the dropped catches.

“We set up ourselves really well. We ended up hitting the fielder to balls which weren’t wicket taking. It is what’s on the scoreboard and how to get them. Even while chasing, despite losing wickets we were one partnership away from being in the game. We needed one partnership to get us home,” he further stated.
