England’s veteran pacer James Anderson might be in his 40s but the right-arm bowler is far from old. While Anderson’s cricketing skills are second to none, the 40-year-old exhibited great footballing skills during play on Day 3 of the fourth Ashes Test. As Anderson was thrown the ball after he completed a delivery, the bowler used his feet to take it off the ground rather than picking it up with his hands.
As the ball rolled on the ground, Anderson first got it off to a decent height by blocking its way. The England pacer then gave a few dribbles with his left leg before kicking it straight up with his right foot and catching it mid-air.
The commentators were left impressed with Anderson’s footballing skills who seemed to have good control over the ball, unlike Stuart Broad who hit himself in the face while trying to kick a football in the air.
James Anderson not having the best outing in Ashes series so far
While James Anderson did show some good footballing skills, the pacer has failed to live up to the expectations of the fans. Having scalped close to 700 wickets in Test cricket, Anderson was expected to do some serious damage as England hosted Australia for the Ashes series. But none of it happened.
James Anderson played the first two Tests but only to claim three wickets in four innings. The pacer was left out of the third Test which England won by four wickets. Although James Anderson returned for the fourth Ashes Test has could not create an impact. In the first inning, the right-arm pacer could only manage a solitary wicket.
In the second inning where England have claimed four wickets, Anderson has been wicketless so far. It is to be seen if the 40-year-old makes a comeback and wins the game for England.
