Team India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. He has shown signs of a comeback but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) won’t be doing the same mistakes it did last year- of rushing Bumrah in spite of his not being fully fit.
There have been speculations that Bumrah might be included in the squad for the Ireland series. However, India skipper Rohit Sharma said that keeping things in mind that Bumrah is recovering from a major injury, it’s not likely that the 29-year-old will be playing in the Ireland series.
“The kind of experience he (Bumrah) brings to the team is very important. But he is coming back after a big injury. I don’t even know if he would be going to Ireland or not as the team has not been selected for that tour,” Rohit said at the pre-match press conference ahead of the first ODI against West Indies, on Thursday (July 27) in Barbados.
Rohit added that he is hoping Bumrah plays more matches ahead of the ODI World Cup to improve his match fitness. The Indian skipper also said that Bumrah has been in quite good shape in recent times.

Last year, Jasprit Bumrah, not fully fit, played matches to keep his body ready for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. However, instead of aiding him, it only worsened his back stress fracture.
Since then, he hasn’t played competitive cricket and has been undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA. It was speculated that he will be making a comeback for the Sri Lanka ODI series at home this year. The BCCI even included his name in the squad list but later updated it saying the speedster won’t be a part of the series.
In April this year, he underwent surgery on his lower back in New Zealand. He missed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Indian Premier League (IPL) as well as the World Test Championship (WTC) Final. Indian cricket fraternity is eagerly waiting to see Bumrah nail those toe-crushing yorkers for the Men in Blue.
