The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced India’s squad for the 2022 Asian Games. Vidarbha cricketer Jitesh Sharma got a place in the 15-member squad to be led by Ruturaj Gaikwad. The wicketkeeper batter who plays for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) is the first-choice wicketkeeper and is certain to get a place in the playing XI.
Sharma who is yet to make his debut for the national team is excited about this opportunity and wants to make the most of it. The 29-year-old is also excited about playing in China, a country where cricket is not at the level of India. Sharma said that he is excited to hear India’s national anthem at the Asiad.
Jitesh Sharma is also excited to live in the Games Village as he has seen these things only on TV. “Sir, aaj tak to ye sab sirf TV par dekha tha, ‘Milkha Singh’ ki movie mein dekha tha. But now I’ll experience it myself. You can say that we are very lucky that we are going to the Asian Games,” said Sharma to News18 Cricketnext.
“I feel we all will stand together as a team and represent our country. We’ll also cheer for everyone who will be there for individual sports and we’ll look to have as many medals as we can. China mein national anthem bajaana hai apne ko.”

Jitesh Sharma has full faith in captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s abilities
The wicketkeeper batter also talked about the young batch of players and how it will be a challenge for the coaching staff to manage them. Jitesh Sharma then bestowed his faith in Ruturaj Gaikwad’s captaincy abilities saying he would do well considering Gaikwad has played under MS Dhoni.
“He is a calm and controlled person. He has been playing for Chennai (Super Kings), so he must be having a better idea. And I think he’ll be a good leader because MS Dhoni ki chhatrochhaya mein reh chuka hai wo (he has been under MS Dhoni). So, he must be having a good idea about captaincy,” said Sharma.
