Jonny Bairstow had it tough growing up. The England international’s father took his own life when he was a child and his mother, Janet Bairstow, worked hard to raise him and his brother. She also fought against cancer twice, beating it both times.

Now Bairstow has become a successful cricketer, like his father David Bairstow who also kept wickets. He has played 99 Tests and will become the 17th English player to play 100 Tests on 7th March. Ahead of the final Test of the series against India, Bairstow was interviewed by The Telegraph, where he said he dedicated his 100th cap to his mother, Janet Bairstow.

My 100th Test Cap is for my mother, my mum is the embodiment of strength - she worked three jobs & had two kids that were under 10 at difficult time - She had cancer twice, she is a bloody strong woman to get through that twice.

Bairstow made his Test debut in May 2012 and since then has been playing many roles across those 99 Tests. He usually plays as a keeper for the Test team, but is also used as a specialist batter, often batting at either number 5, 6 or 7.

Jonny Bairstow and Ravichandran Ashwin form rare occasion in Dharamshala Test

In the history of Test cricket, only twice have two cricketers or more played their 100th Test match together. It first happened in 2006, when Jacques Kallis, Shaun Pollock and Stephen Fleming played their 100th Test together at Centurion. Seven years later, Alastair Cook and Michael Clark played their 100th Test during the 2013/14 Ashes.

Now Jonny Bairstow and Ravichandran Ashwin will be playing their 100th Test together on 7th March at the HPCA stadium, Dharamshala. This will be the third time two players are playing their 100th Test together. Just a day after the start of the Dharamshala Test, Kane Williamson and Tim Southee could also play their 100th Test together.
