The last day of the second Ashes Test turned out to be pretty interesting. While there were plenty of incidents- from Ben Stokes’ valiant knock to Australia’s win- that made headlines, Jonny Bairstow’s controversial runout topped the list. The England wicketkeeper was taken aback when Alex Carey caught Bairstow casually wandering out of his crease and ran him out.

While Australia celebrated the dismissal, Bairstow and England fans were furious. The England batter was visibly upset on his way back to the pavilion. Meanwhile, the English crowd booed the Australian team when the players went back for lunch. A few members of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) sitting in the Lord’s Long Room also took a hit at the Aussies over Jonny Bairstow’s runout.

Usman Khawaja and David Warner were then seen getting involved with these English fans. Khawaja also called out the act saying he was “really disappointed”.

“It was really disappointing,” Khawaja said on Channel Nine. “Lord’s is one of my favorite places to come. There’s always respect shown at Lord’s, particularly in the Members Pavilion in the Long Room, but there wasn’t today. It was very disappointing.

Taking cognizance of the matter, the Marylebone Cricket Club issued a statement on Sunday stating that it has suspended three of its members for their unruly behavior with the Australian players. The club also apologized to the Aussies.

“Further to the earlier statement, MCC can confirm it has suspended three Members identified from earlier today. They will not be permitted back to Lord’s whilst the investigation takes place and were informed of this by MCC Chief Executive, Guy Lavender, this evening,” said MCC in its statement.

Not just the Australians but the England players were also taken aback by the Lord’s Long Room incident. While England captain Ben Stokes called it “pretty mad”, former England captain Eoin Morgan said that those scenes were unprecedented.

“I arrived here, signed as a 16-year-old kid and have played my whole career here. I’ve never seen scenes like that, particularly in the Long Room. Never mind all the way around the ground. There’s a huge sense of frustration, but I can understand why. It’s complete naivety around what has happened with Jonny Bairstow’s dismissal,” Morgan told Sky Sports.
