Jonny Bairstow who was under scrutiny for dropping catches while keeping the wickets for England in Ashes, shut down his critics in style on Wednesday. As England took on Australia in the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford in Manchester, Bairstow grabbed an absolutely stunning catch to dismiss Mitchell Marsh in Australia’s first inning.
As Marsh outside-edged a delivery from Chris Woakes, Bairstow pulled off a one-handed stunner from behind the wicket and then let out a loud roar.
In the 63rd over of Australia’s first inning, Chris Woakes had just gotten Cameron Green who was batting on 16. Then on the fifth delivery of the over, Woakes bowled from a bit wide of the crease indicating that he was aiming for Marsh’s pads. However, the ball, after pitching on good length, straightened a tad and opened the batter up completely. Marsh could only manage a feather touch.
Meanwhile, Jonny Bairstow showed some great reflexes. The England wicketkeeper quickly leaped to his left with his right arm stretched out. Bairstown then plucked the ball inches close to the ground to send the crowd into a frenzy.

Jonny Bairstow gives fitting reply to Dinesh Karthik who criticized the wicketkeeper

Just before the start of the fourth Ashes Test, Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik who is on the Sky Sports commentary panel for the Ashes, in a discussion with Nasse Hussain criticized Jonny Bairstow saying, “He’s been on his knees a lot more than on his feet which is not a good sign for a keeper”.
Karthik was analyzing the dropped catches and missed chances by Bairstow in the series so far and claimed that the England wicketkeeper undergoing surgery on his leg is not helping him in wicketkeeping.
Now, Bairstow, with that catch of Mitchell Marsh might have cleared the doubts about his wicketkeeping skills. Nevertheless, it is to be seen if he continues to amaze everyone with his wonders behind the wicket or if Dinesh Karthik will have another chance to pull Bairstow’s legs. Also, the England wicketkeeper batter will look to contribute with the bat as well.
