“Once you start encouraging this trend,” ex-KKR director shocked as Hardik Pandya goes to MI despite former Indian star getting banned for same thing
Joy Bhattacharjya took Ravindra Jadeja's ban as an example to why Hardik Pandya's trade shouldn't happen.

In 2010, Ravindra Jadeja rejected a contract renewal by his franchise, Rajasthan Royals (RR), as he wanted a pay rise. As the pay rise was rejected, he contacted Mumbai Indians (MI) to get a trade with them. When the BCCI and IPL caught a whiff of these negotiations, he was banned from the IPL for a year, missing out on the 2010 IPL. Now with Hardik Pandya getting his dream move to MI, Joy Bhattacharjya was unhappy with the move.
While talking to Oaktree Sports, a YouTube show, he spoke about his displeasure of the move and said it was a terrible thing to happen with the IPL, and will be more common in the future. The former KKR director said the players acting fussy will cause more problems in the future for franchises as well.

He (Jadeja) had said that he doesn't want to play for Rajasthan Royals anymore and so was banned for a year because they said that you cannot break the system. If a player suddenly says that take me from the auction but I do not want to play for you...and once you start encouraging this trend then it will not be a good idea to go down that road. That is why it was stopped in 2010.Joy Bhattacharjya to Oaktree Sports
Pandya was released by MI in the 2022 mega auction as he was not one of the Indian players retained by the team. He was picked up by Gujarat Titans (GT) for Rs. 15 crore and captained them for 2 years, winning the IPL on their first attempt. The all-rounder was then traded back to MI just weeks before the 2024 IPL auction, with MI paying Rs. 15 Crore.

As Hardik Pandya departed to Mumbai Indians, he ensured he bid farewell to his former team. Hours after the trade was made official, he posted an emotional note thanking the side.

Shubman Gill will now lead the Gujarat based franchise, which is his first stint at captaincy. Pandya is being touted as the future captain of MI once Rohit Sharma leaves his role, much to the dismay of Jasprit Bumrah.
