Former India captain Kapil Dev does not agree with Ravi Shastri on the latter’s claim about Hardik Pandya’s Test comeback. As Shastri claimed that Pandya’s body cannot cope with the workload of Test cricket, Kapil Dev completely downplayed the claim.
It’s been almost five years since Hardik Pandya last played a Test match for India. The all-rounder has played only 11 Tests for India in comparison to his 75 ODIs and 87 T20Is. While Pandya now leads the national team in T20Is, he has still a long way to go before he returns to Test cricket.
Although the all-rounder himself has ruled him out of the format, Kapil Dev does not feel the same way. Dev also cited Dennis Lille’s example to prove his point.
“I respect his (Shastri’s) statement, but why? Nobody has had more breakdowns than Dennis Lillee. So I don’t believe that. Human body can come back from any corner, and come back into top condition. If you say Hardik Pandya who is such a great athlete, looks so good. If he has to work hard on his body, he has to work hard,” said Dev The Week.
What has Hardik Pandya said about his Test comeback?
While the discussions around Hardik Pandya’s Test comeback continue to grab attention, the all-rounder does not even bother thinking about it. Ever since his comeback to International cricket, Pandya has been focused solely on white-ball cricket and whenever he has been asked about a potential Test comeback, Pandya has denied it.
“I will come when I feel is the right time to play Test cricket. Right now, I am going to focus on white-ball cricket which is important. When the time is right and my body is fine, I will give it a try,” Pandya had said back in February this year.
He had then turned down the claims about him returning to Test cricket with WTC Final by saying that he will go through the grind to earn his spot back in the team.
