Reacting to the horrific accident, the legendary Kapil Dev said cricketers need to take care of themselves and should hire drivers.
Kapil Dev and Rishabh Pant
India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant was traveling from Delhi to Roorkee in Uttarakhand to meet his family for the New Year. But reportedly, he fell asleep while driving the car and lost control of it. He was near Haridwar in the early hours of Friday when his car crashed into the divider, engulfing in a ball of fire. But somehow the 24-year-old broke one of the car windows to get out before a bus driver, conductor, and a few men arrived at the spot to help the wicketkeeper.
Pant was first taken to a nearby hospital and then he was moved to Dehradun’s Max Hospital. According to a BCCI statement, Pant “has two cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee and has also hurt his right ankle, tow and has suffered abrasion injuries on his back.” But he is safe and in stable condition now.
When the shocking news broke out, the cricket fraternity wished for his speedy recovery. He was dropped from the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka, starting on January 3. But he was to go to the National Cricket Academy for strength and training before the Australia Test series. But now, he may lose a year in cricket.

A cricketer should be responsible, says Kapil Dev after Rishabh Pant’s accident
According to SP SK Singh of Haridwar (Rural), Rishabh Pant had been driving alone. Reacting to the horrific accident, the legendary Kapil Dev said cricketers need to take care of themselves and should hire drivers.
“This is learning. When I was still an up-and-coming cricketer, I faced a motorcycle accident. From that day onwards, my brother didn’t even let me touch the motorbike. I’m just thankful to god that Rishabh Pant is safe,” Kapil Dev told ABP News.
“Yes, you have a good-looking car with great speeds but you have to be careful. You can easily afford a driver, you don’t have to drive it alone. I understand that one has hobbies or even passion for such things, it’s natural to have it at his age, but you also have responsibilities. Only you can take care of yourself. You have to decide for yourself,” Mr. Dev added.
