Former Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev, has recently expressed concerns regarding the preparations of senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma ahead of the eagerly anticipated Asia Cup 2023. Kapil Dev was dissatisfied with the duo’s lack of participation in the pre-tournament encounters.
Since the end of the West Indies Test series, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been absent from the team. In the second ODI and subsequent T20I series, India’s setback to the West Indies was a direct result of their absence. According to Kapil Dev, these senior players must play more domestic cricket in order to not only keep up their form, but also provide vital support to the young talent in the team.
In light of the approaching ODI World Cup, which India hopes to win on home soil, Kapil Dev highlights the importance of Rohit and Kohli. He believes that their involvement in domestic cricket will contribute not only to their own performance, but also to the expansion of the domestic cricket circuit in India.
“Domestic cricket in most important. How many domestic matches has Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma or any of the other top players played in recent times?” Dev said in an interview with Times of India.
England’s ”Bazball” strategy could lead India to victory
Kapil Dev emphasizes that England’s “Bazball” strategy could give India an aggressive advantage in test cricket. He believes that a more offensive approach is necessary for victory, a mentality that India should implement to achieve success on the field.
However, Kapil Dev also acknowledges the difficulties posed by the demanding cricket schedule and the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) supervision of player responsibilities. In spite of these obstacles, he encourages Rohit Sharma and other top players to emulate England’s successful “Bazball” strategy, which emphasizes aggressive cricket. Moreover, Dev considers the recent Ashes series between England and Australia as one of the finest demonstrations of Test cricket in his recent memory.
