Karun Nair and Shreyas Gopal leave Karnataka, will play for different teams on the 2023/24 season

Batter Karun Nair and all rounder Shreyas Gopal are not going to play for the Karnataka Cricket team in the 2023/24 season as they will now shift to different state teams. After receiving No Objection Certificates from the Karnataka State Cricket Association, Nair will shift to the Vidarbha Cricket Team while Shreyas will play for Kerala.

Karun Nair debuted for Karnataka in the 2013/14 season against Punjab, in which he came in to bat at 7. But as time went on, he was promoted up the batting order and eventually got called up for the Indian Cricket team in 2016. In the finals of the 2014/15 Ranji Trophy, he had scored a mammoth 328 against Tamil Nadu. Karnataka won by an innings and 217 runs.

He was India’s 2nd Triple Centurion, scoring 303 against England in Chennai. He had become the 3rd batsman and the first Indian to convert their maiden century to a triple century. But in the past few years he has lost his place in the State team, with Mayank Agarwal replacing him as captain as well.

As of now, he isn’t in contention to play any format for the side, playing his last First Class game for Karnataka in July 2022.

Shreyas Gopal had debuted in the 2013/14 season along with Karun Nair and was an important player for his state for the next 5 years. He had picked up a hat trick in the Irani Cup against the Rest of India in 2014. That was the first Hat trick in competition, since its first edition in 1959/60. Shreyas is also not getting enough games, with him being dropped from the white ball side.

He last played a white ball game for Karnataka in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in October 2022. Since then he has only featured in a couple of Ranji Trophy games and was also unsold in the 2023 IPL Auction. In Kerala, he will form a spin partnership with Ranji veteran, Jalaj Saxena. Saxena had also joined Kerala after leaving Madhya Pradesh in 2016.

Along with Nair and Shreyas, batters KV Siddharth and Rohan Kadam are going to shift to Goa for the 23/24 season.

Nitish Rana (L) and Dhruv Shorey (R)

KKR Captain Nitish Rana and Red ball specialist Dhruv Shorey have obtained NOCs by the Delhi & District Cricket Association to leave the Delhi Cricket team. Nitish Rana used to be the captain of the side, but is now replaced by rising star Yash Dhull. A DDCA insider said that Rana was not happy with this decision and was looking to leave. The insider said it’s also due to his relationship with a few players, like Hritik Shokeen. He could join the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Team and reunite with his KKR teammate, Rinku Singh.

Dhruv Shorey is leaving the team to join Karun Nair at the Vidarbha cricket team as well. Apparently he was unhappy with the fact that he was only playing in Red Ball cricket.
