It has become a problem for including Virat Kohli in the team since he has been suffering from prolonged lean patch since three years. His not scoring centuries since November 2019, and a poor outing in the recently-concluded IPL 2022. He was dismissed multiple times on ducks.

When many criticised him and urged the management to drop him, several have come out in support of him including the likes of India captain Rohit Sharma. Recently, Pakistan’s white-ball captain Babar Azam also expressed his concerns for Kohli and supported him in his tough times. He posted on Twitter with the words, “This too shall pass. Stay strong”.

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, in an interview claimed that Kohli should have responded to Azam and that Kohli would never do that. But just a day after that, Virat Kohli replied to Azam’s post and said, “Thank you. Keep shining and rising. Wishes you all the best.”

Pakistan’s legendary former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar was among those show have shown concern over Kohli’s form and supported him. While India legend Kapil Dev urged the management to drop Kohli because he is not contributing anything to the team, and that chances should be given to the in-form youngsters and management shouldn’t pick a player because of his reputation, Akhtar pointed out that just because Kohli is struggling, why should everyone is getting arms against him when he had scored so much.

“Kapil Dev is my senior and he has an opinion and it is fine to have an opinion. If Kapil Dev says, you still understand as he is a great cricketer. He has the right to air his opinion,” Akhtar said on his YouTube channel.

“But, as a Pakistani, why am I supporting Kohli? Well, he has 70 hundreds. Woh 70 sau khaala ke ghar mein ya candy crush khelte huye nahi banein hain. (Those 70 tons were not scored in his aunt’s backyard or while playing Candy Crush).”

“How did you even imagine in your wildest dreams that Kohli can be dropped from Indian team?” “Virat Kohli is finished? Ok, fair enough. Virat Kohli should be dropped? Agreed. Now when I hear these things, I laugh and tell people, ‘Virat has been the greatest batter in the world in the last 10 years.

“Yes, he has had a couple of lean years and even in those years, he has scored runs if not hundreds. Suddenly everyone getting up in arms against him, such a great player and a human being isn’t right,” the ‘Rawalpindi Express’ said.
