Meanwhile in the match, Gujarat Titans won the toss and opted to bat first. GT lose their opening batsman Shubman Gill in the second over. Then Hardik Pandya played a half-century knock by scoring 67 off 49 balls by smashing 4 fours and 2 sixes. Among the batsmen, only because of Pandya that Gujarat could reach a decent total of 156/9 when in the final over, Andre Russell’s 4-wicket haul ensured to restrict GT’s innings.
But KKR, although the target looked easy to chase, faltered to chase it due to brilliancy of the Gujarat bowlers. Mohammed Shami first dismissed Sam Billings in the first over and then he stopped Sunil Narine in the 3rd over. Yash Dayal got Shreyas Iyer and Rinku Singh’s wickets. Rashid Khan got hold of Venkatesh Iyer and Shivam Mavi.
Andre Russell’s all-rounding skills in this match had gone in vain. After his superb performance with the ball in the last over, he played a knock of 48 off 25 balls with four and 6 sixes. But, in the final over, Alzarri Joseph delivered a short and angling on leg. Andre Russell’s top edge made it fall towards the square leg where Lockie Ferguson grabbed an excellent catch.
The new face of IPL, Gujarat Titans, leading by Hardik Pandya, have lost only one match in their 7 matches and they have strengthened their position at the top of the points table. With this defeat KKR slumped to their fourth straight loss.
