Earlier, LSG won the toss and opted to bat first. Opener KL Rahul smashed 4 fours and 5 sixes to play a brilliant knock of 77 off 51 balls and other opener Quinton de Kock scored 23 off 13 balls with 3 fours and a six. Whereas Deepak Hooda hit 6 fours and a six to score 52 off 34 balls. Hooda was caught and bowled by Shardul Thakur in the 15th over.

In the 4th ball of the 19th over, Shardul Thakur bowled a little wider ball and KL Rahul went after it and hit it flat and hard towards the cover-point fence. The ball looked to be flying over Lalit Yadav’s head but he timed his jump and snatched it out of thin air, sending Rahul back to the pavilion.

Only Shardul Thakur picked up 3 wickets and conceded 40 runs in 4 overs. A win over DC will take LSG to second spot in the ten-team points table.

KL Rahul follows Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler in the Orange Cap race. And he also crossed the 400 runs-mark for the fifth consecutive season. In 2018, he had scored 659 in 14 matches; 593, 670, and 626 in 2019, 2020, and 2021 respectively.

Rahul’s highest run so far in IPL is 132* which he had scored in 2020. The 13th edition also crowned him with the Orange Cap. He also became the fastest Indian to complete 150 sixes in IPL history in just 95 matches. In the ongoing IPL 2022, Rahul has already smashed two centuries.
