Why KL Rahul may face difficulties to find a place in the playing XI despite recovering before World Cup?
If KL Rahul recovers completely before the ODI World Cup, it will still be difficult for him to find a place in the squad let alone the playing XI. It’s because of the horrible form he has been dealing with.
He has been struggling to score runs due to the lean patch and only played a decent knock once in a blue moon. He last played the 50-over format for India against Australia in Chennai.
He used to open alongside skipper Rohit Sharma in white-ball cricket but during his absence, Indian management has been experimenting with the combination. Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill opened for India in the recently-concluded West Indies ODI series.
Kishan, who also does the work with the gloves, did decently, and with the bat too, he was the most consistent for India, reaching 50 in all three ODI matches. India also have Sanju Samson as a wicketkeeper who also batted in West Indies, and even scored a half-century. This is why Rahul may find it tough to cement his spot in the squad.
