Just a day before the 1st T20I of a five-match T20I series against South Africa, KL Rahul, who was to captain Team India in the absence of the regular captain Rohit Sharma, sustained a groin injury which ruled him out of the entire series. He then set out to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for medical assistence.

Today, Rahul has shared a video on his official social media handle of his training in the gym to get back on the field with a fit body. Captioning the post with, ‘setback < comeback’, Rahul did the exercises of running on a treadmill, squats, weight-lifting, lunges, planks and other workouts. India will tour England for the fifth Test after these T20Is and Rahul, who is also the second highest-scorer for India, will try to make a comeback.

Host team India had set a huge target of 212 to the Proteas; were having a psychological advantage due to the score. The credit goes to youngster Ishan Kishan’s knock of 76 runs, and quickfires from Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya for setting this target. But the pair of Rassie van der Dussen and in-form David Miller had put on a 131-run partnership to chase runs comfortably; helped their team a 7-wicket victory, ending India’s winning streaks.

In a post-match conference, Kishan declared that he won’t ask the management to include him in the squad if they could get the services from world-class players like Rohit Sharm and KL Rahul.

I think they (Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul) are world-class players and I won’t ask for my support when they are there in the team,” said Kishan. “They have done so much. You know, scored so many runs for our country. I can’t ask them to drop them and make me play in the first place. Yeah I’ll keep doing my thing it’s up to selectors or other coaches whatever they think but my job is to you know just whenever I get my chance I will give my best,” he added later.
