KL Rahul has often been criticized for his poor strike rate while batting in T20s. The 31-year-old plays the role of an anchor, but takes his time to score runs and often strikes at around low 130s.

On 7th April, Lucknow SuperGiants beat Gujarat Titans at home. Defending a low score of 164, they bowled out GT for just 130 runs and won by 33 runs. Despite the win, KL Rahul was called out for his poor batting performance, where he scored 33 runs in just 31 balls, with a SR of just 106.46.

In response, LSG uploaded a video with Rahul in it, along with comedian Shubham Gaur. Gaur goes up to congratulate the LSG captain, and says he should be the next ‘Defense Minister’ of India.

Rahul gets offended, thinking he is taking a dig at his poor strike rate. He asked him, “Tu bhi mazak udayega strike rate ka yaar? (You are also making fun of me?).” But Gaur claims he should be the defense minister as he has successfully defended a 160+ score for the 13th consecutive time.

Ambati Rayudu believes KL Rahul should move to middle order

Still fighting for a spot for the 2024 T20 World Cup, KL Rahul’s chances keep diminishing. The opener has no chance getting ahead of Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jasiwal and Virat Kohli. The spot for the wicket-keeper is still up for grabs, but Ishan Kishan and Jitesh Sharma are ahead in the order, with Rishabh Pant also touted for a potential comeback.

With the keeper’s spot still open, Ambati Rayudu believes KL Rahul should shift to the middle order to get a ticket to the 2024 T20 World Cup. He backed the Karnataka batter to return to form and hopefully help out his team as well.
KL Rahul still has to get back to form. I think he is going to return to form, soon. I think he should be batting at No. 3 or No. 4 if he has to stay in the reckoning for the Indian team because there are already too many openers who are contending for the spot. And it will be good for LSG if he can come in the middle-overs and stay till the end. That’s what the Indian team needs as well.

Currently the candidates for India’s middle order include Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Pant, Shivam Dube and Tilak Varma. Rahul’s selection now depends on how well his IPL season goes.
