On 3rd April, Kolkata Knight Riders hit Delhi Capitals for 272 runs, the 2nd highest total in the history of the IPL. The match saw 18 sixes and 22 boundaries on a small ground in Vizag.
The onslaught began from ball one, as opener Sunil Narine brought up his fifty in just 21 balls. He ended his innings with 85 runs, taking only 39 balls. Eighteen-year-old debutant Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored a fifty in just 25 balls as well. The highlight of his innings was when he reverse scooped Khaleel Ahmed for a boundary.
Andre Russell was promoted to number four, where he hit 41 off 19 before being dismissed by a brutal yorker by Ishant Sharma. Rinku Singh played an entertaining cameo, as he hit 26 runs in just eight balls. The total was just five runs short of SRH’s 277, which they hit exactly a week ago.
Out of all the DC bowlers, only Sumit Kumar managed to get his economy below 10. Anrich Nortje was the most expensive bowler, as he gave 59 runs in his four overs. Along with him, Sharma, Rasikh Salam and Ahmed have over 40 runs.
Fans entertained with KKR’s incredible batting show
Fans on X lauded KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir for “reviving the KKR players.” A fan said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should give chance to the young guns instead of Rohit Sharma in the upcoming T20 World Cup. But for some fan, seeing such batting made them claim that cricket is losing its quality.
