“Another day, another 50”- Twitter reacts as Sri Lankan batters don’t break a sweat; Kusal Mendis’ fiery knock is enough to outclass Ireland

SL vs IRE
Sri Lankan top orders easily helped the team to win their first match of Super 12 by nine runs against Ireland on Sunday [October 23] at the Blundstone Arena in Hobart. Kusal Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Charith Asalanka’s knocks were enough to outclass the Irish team.
Ireland skipper Andy Birbirnie won the toss and opted to bat first. But this decision didn’t work for their team as they stumbled to put on only 128/8 in their 20 overs.
Harry Tector and Paul Stirling were the star batters because their knocks steadied Irish ship to some extent. Stirling scored 36 runs off 25 balls, while Tector scored 45 runs off 42 balls.
Sri Lanka responded quickly and opener Mendis and de Silva added 63 runs for the first wicket. Gareth Delany in the ninth over dismissed de Silva with a short ball. The ball had turned a bit and de Silva stayed there and tried to slice it without any foorwork. But because of the thin outside edge, Lorcan Tucker grabbed the catch behind the stumps and dismissed de Silva.
The Mendis and Asalanka did the rest of the job. Mendis scored a quick 68 runs off 43 balls, studded with five fours and three maximums at a strike rate of 158.14.
Asalanka, meanwhile, scored 31 runs off 22 balls with two fours at a strike rate of 140.91, helping Sri Lanka a nine-wicket (30 balls left) victory over Ireland.
