In India’s second match in Asia Cup 2022 against Hong Kong, they posted a huge target of 193 for the latter on Wednesday, August 31 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in UAE.
Hong Kong skipper Nizakat Khan won the toss and opted to bowl first. Indian openers, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul scored 36 runs off 39 balls and 21 runs off 13 balls respectively.
But Rohit soon was dismissed by Ayush Shukla in 4.5 over. Shukla went short with his length and delivered it outside off. Rohit rocked back to power it but the ball hurried onto the bat and made Rohit mistime the shot. The ball was going towards mid on and Aizaz Khan ran forward and completed the catch. Rohit’s knock also included two fours and a six.
The next batter to get dismissed was KL Rahul. Rahul played 39 balls to score 36 including two sixes. But in 12.6 over, Mohammad Ghazanfar served a loopy delivery that made Rahul go for slog-sweep the ball over the leg side. But he got a faint edge behind due to some extra bounce. The ball jumped onto the keeper Scott McKechniew and he grabbed the ball on the second attempt.
Virat Kohli was already at the crease and then came his partner Suryakumar Yadav. From the very start, Suryakumar was fired up. He played shots all across the stadium and in the penultimate over, he smashed a total of four sixes (three back to back off three consecutive balls). At the end, he played an unbeaten knock of 68 runs off just 26 balls including six boundaries and six sixes at an impressive strike rate of 261.54.
While Kohli first took some time to settle before he started hitting big shots towards the end of the innings. He played 44 balls to score an unbeaten 59 runs with a boundary and three sixes. At the end, India scored a huge 192/2 in their allotted 20 overs.
