“Lord Madhwal,” fans go berserk as Mumbai Indians ride on Akash Madhwal’s fifer to eliminate LSG from IPL 2023

Mumbai Indians' Aakash Madhwal celebrates a wicket during MI vs GT

Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) were on fire against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2023 Eliminator. The five-time champions, riding on an exceptional bowling spell from Akash Madhwal, beat LSG by 81 runs and booked themselves a spot in Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans. The uncapped Indian pacer took five wickets while giving away just five runs in his spell of 21 balls and derailed LSG’s chase completely.

Akash Madhwal started as well as closed the innings for Mumbai. While the right-arm pacer dismissed Prerak Mankad for his first scalp, Madhwal cleaned up Mohsin Khan to complete his fifer and also win the game for his team. He was unplayable throughout his spell and never allowed LSG batters to settle in the middle.

For LSG, Marcus Stoinis was the leading run-getter with his 27-ball 40. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians posted 182/8 on the back of some decent performances from Cameron Green (41 off 23), Suryakumar Yadav (33 off 20), Tilak Varma (26 off 22), and Nehal Wadhera (23 off 12).

While fans praised Mumbai Indians for their herculean performance, captain Rohit Sharma was too pleased with his team. “That is what we have done over the years. People don’t expect us to do what we have done, but we managed to. He (Akash) was the part of the team last year as a support bowler, and once Jofra was gone and I knew he had skills and the character to do the job for us,” said Rohit on the win.
