It’s impossible for people who have born in the 90’s who haven’t heard of songs like ‘Ankho me Teri’ from movie Om Shanti Om, or ‘Khuda Jane’ from movie Bachna Ae Haseeno. These hits were sung by veteran singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK. He had recorded songs in several languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, and Kannada and is one of the most popular singers in the Indian film industry.

KK passed away on May 21 (Tuesday) in Kolkata, after a day when he fell ill during a live concert in a college fest and was brought to the CMRI hospital. He is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son. His was performing in the iconic Nazrul Mancha auditorium till 8:30 pm. After falling ill suddenly, he returned to his hotel and was rushed to the hospital when his condition deteriorated.

Following his untimely death at the age of 53, prominent personalities in the likes of PM Narendra Modi, Armaan Malik, Akshay Kumar, Mahesh Babu have mourned over his death.

Cricketers like Virat Kohli, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Anil Kumble, VVS Laxman, Wasim Jaffer, Harbhajan Singh, Sunil Joshi among others took to Twitter to share their condolences on Twitter to the singer’s family.

“Lost a magnificent singer of our times and so suddenly. Condolences to his family and close ones,” wrote former India skipper Virat Kohli.

“Tragic to hear about the passing away of KK after falling ill while performing in Kolkata. Another reminder of how fragile life is. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti,” said former veteran Indian opener Virender Sehwag.

“Deeply saddened by the passing of KK. Condolences to his family and friends,” wrote former India head coach Anil Kumble.

“Saddened by the untimely demise of a wonderful Singer, KK. He will live on through his music. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti,” wrote veteran cricketer VVS Laxman.
