The Lucknow super giants made it to their second consecutive IPL play-offs but were ousted by the Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator. LSG had a more than decent season overall as they secured third place on the points table after a wild race to the playoffs.

After KL Rahul ruled himself out of the season, Krunal Pandya stepped in as captain. With 8 wins in 14 matches, LSG players put on a good show. The likes of Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi made sure their team reached the finish line.

Along with positives, there were also a few negatives in the LSG camp. Although LSG made it to the second consecutive playoffs, they had a start-stop season. The defeat against Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator was a ringing bell for LSG. So, the team would look to make a few changes to its squad ahead of IPL 2024.

Players Lucknow Super Giants will look to release before IPL 2024 Auction

1. Deepak Hooda

Deepak Hooda just couldn’t find his groove with the bat in IPL 2023. He was given the chance to play in 12 matches but failed to capitalize. He managed a mere 84 runs at a horrific average of 7.64. He doesn’t seem like a solution for LSG but only a failed investment. Lucknow could very well look to release him in the upcoming auctions. Hooda put up one of the worst batting performances in the history of the tournament and it is unlikely that he will be given a go again.

2. Jaydev Unadkat

Playing just 3 matches in the 2023 season, left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat picked up zero wickets and gave away runs like charity. Unadkat struggled to curtail his economy rate of a whopping 11.50. Ever since the 2020 season, the left-arm pacer has not been given enough games and consequently, he hasn’t managed to pick up more than 6 wickets. He has 91 wickets in his 94-match-long IPL career. With him putting up continuously underwhelming performances, LSG would want to invest better.

3. Quinton De Kock

Commitment to national duty led to De Kock’s late arrival at the LSG set-up, meanwhile, Kyle Mayers was given a go in his place and he held on to that opportunity. Surprisingly Quinton De Kock was benched for a large part of the season and played just 4 matches. He scored 143 runs including one fifty. Contrary to his previous season for LSG, the left-handed wicket-keeper lost his spot in the XI and might not get another chance next season.

4. Daniel Sams

LSG acquired Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams for 75 lakhs in the auction only to bench him for the entire season. Since the franchise doesn’t seem to show much faith in his abilities and could soon release him. In what was a baffling decision, it is best for both parties to part ways for their mututal benefit.
