“Main tournament chhod du,” fans react as Mumbai Indians thrash Punjab Kings by six wickets in record chase

Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) have picked up momentum at the right time in IPL 2023. After defeating Rajasthan Royals (RR) at their home ground, Mumbai Indians thrashed Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the latter’s den to register their fifth win of the season. The five-time champions beat Punjab by six wickets in a high-scoring encounter at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.

Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and Tilak Varma starred for Mumbai as they pulled off a historic win in Mohali. Mumbai became the first team to successfully chase a 200+ total at this venue and they have a few names to be thankful to. While Ishan Kishan (75 off 41) provided that blistering start with Camero Green (23 off 18), Suryakumar (66 off 31) maintained the tempo in the middle overs.

Meanwhile, Tilak Varma (26* off 10) and Tim David (19* and 10) provided the finishing touches. Earlier, Punjab Kings posted a mammoth 214/3 in their designated 20 overs on the back of blistering knocks from Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma. While Livingstone played a valiant knock of 82* (42), Sharma scored an unbeaten 49* off just 27 balls.

Punjab bowlers failed to defend the big score posted by their batters despite Rishi Dhawan getting Rohit Sharma early. Arshdeep Singh was the most expensive bowler for Punjab (1/66). Nathan Ellis (2/34), however, kept PBKS alive with his timely wickets.

Nevertheless, it was an entertaining match, between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings for the fans who enjoyed every bit of it. Some also came with hilarious memes as MI are picking up momentum in the second half of the tournament.
