West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after India’s World Cup final loss to Australia. The match was played at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium and according to Banerjee, India would have won the tournament had Kolkata’s Eden Gardens or Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium hosted the final.
Notably, the Ahmedabad crowd faced a lot of criticism over their silence in the stadium. On X, many fans slammed them for not backing the team when they were losing momentum and even opined that hosting the final either in Kolkata or Mumbai would have been better. While addressing Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata, she slammed The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by claiming that the party had given Team India the saffron jerseys.
I can tell you if the (World Cup) final would have been in Eden or Wankhede, we would have won. They (BJP) have given them saffron jerseys.Banerjee said.
