The 2019 World Cup semi-final still hurts the Indian fans, because the Men in Blue under Virat Kohli not only failed to lift a trophy, but it was also MS Dhoni’s last international match. The run out of Dhoni by New Zealand’s Martin Guptill was the end of all the hopes.
Knowing the Indian fans, most of them started slamming Guptill on X (formerly Twitter). Guptill, during the ongoing Legends League Cricket (LLC), recalled that moment and revealed that he still gets hate mails from Indian fans because of that runout.

I knew there was no chance of a throw at the stumps, but I just tried to have a shot and only had one and a half stumps to aim at, and I just got lucky. The stars aligned, and it was a perfect throw. In other words, the whole of India doesn't like me. I get plenty of hate mails from there.Guptill said during the LLC as quoted by Hindustan Times.
Match summary of the 2019 World Cup semifinal
After Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson chose to bat first after winning the toss, Ross Taylor’s 74 and Williamson’s 67 took them to a decent total of 239/8. India had a very poor start to the run chase because Matt Henry struck in the second over by dismissing Rohit Sharma for one run.

Virat Kohli became Trent Boult’s victim after scoring one run in the third over and in the fourth over, it was time for KL Rahul to depart off Henry’s bowling, again, for one run. Rishabh Pant, with his 65-ball 32 runs, tried to steady the innings but in vain. Hardik Pandya also scored 32 runs.
After their dismissals, MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja attempted to chase the target but that run out from Martin Guptill was the turning point of the match. The Kiwis then wrapped up the match to win by 18 runs. Dhoni scored 50 off 72 balls, while Jadeja played 59 balls to score 77 runs.
