Matheesha Pathirana, Sri Lankan speedster who was recently acquired by Chennai Super Kings has said that he would want to walk in steps of legendary Sri Lankan bowler Lasith Malinga and become a cricketer like him.

As a replacement for New Zealand pacer Adam Milne, CSK signed him the Sri Lankan for 20 lakhs and has played two T20’s so far. Adam Milne was ruled out of IPL after he sustained a hamstring injury in the first match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium on March 26.

Matheesha Pathirana, the 19-year-old, has played two Under-19 World Cups for his country in 2020 and 2022. He came under the limelight because his bowling acting looks very similar to that of Malinga’s. He could be in the playing eleven as early as in CSK’s next game against Punjab Kings on Monday.

“His (Adam Milne) replacement Pathirana is a young 19-year-old medium pacer from Sri Lanka who was part of Sri Lankas’s U19 World Cup squads in 2020 and 2022.”
