Mayank Agarwal registers FIR after drinking poisonous liquid, claims foul play

Mayank Agarwal has now registered an FIR (via ESPN and Latestly)

On the night of 30th January 2024, Mayank Agarwal was hospitalized in Agartala after drinking a mysterious drink on an Indigo flight. The Karnataka team was departing from the city to travel to Surat but had to stay back as their captain complained of a burning stomach and throat. He vomited, was deboarded and taken to a nearby hospital. 

He was admitted to the ICU and had swollen lips and ulcers in his mouth. The team manager revealed that Agarwal was thirsty and drank a pouch in front of him thinking it was water but instead got a burning sensation. He is currently in stable condition and

Agarwal and his manager have now decided to file an FIR, with the Tripura police investigating the matter. Karnataka were traveling to Delhi, with their next Ranji Trophy fixture being in Surat against Railways on the 2nd of February. With the opener out of action, vice-captain Nikin Jose will be captaining the side.

Mayank Agarwal’s Ranji season so far 

Mayank Agarwal is the captain of the Karnataka Cricket Team. So far, under his captaincy, Karnataka are the joint table topper of their group with Tripura. Their first match was against Punjab, where he departed for ducks in both innings. They then faced Gujarat in Ahmedabad but lost the game by 6 runs. Agarwal had scored a century in a losing cause unfortunately.

In his next game against Goa, he scored his 2nd century of the season, with Karnataka winning by an innings. In their last game against Tripura, he led Karnataka to yet another win as he scored a half-century.

The team now plays Railways on the 2nd of February, but will be without the services of their highest run-scorer. They currently lie with 15 points, tied on points with Tripura but behind on runs per wicket ratio.
