Following the ugly altercation at the Lord’s Long Room where three members of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) were accused of getting abusive toward Australia opener Usman Khawaja, King’s Council may ban those three members permanently. The King’s Council will reveal its decision next week.

Khawaja and a few other Aussie players were passing through the Long Room during the last day of the second Ashes Test. After England batter Jonny Bairstow was dismissed in a controversial fashion, three MCC members allegedly abused the Aussie players.

In the videos that quickly went viral on Twitter, Khawaja and David Warner could be seen exchanging words with the MCC members. “Identify and kick them out. There are lots of members who would never do that and lots waiting in the wings to take their spots if they won’t appreciate them,” Sydney Morning Herald’s report quoted a member as saying.

The member also criticized the three members for hurling abuse at someone like Khawaja who seems “the nicest” Aussie who never upset anyone. As per the MCC regulations, a member may face a long suspension or permanent ban if found offensive, abusive, using abusive language, etc.

Why did this incident happen between Usman Khawaja and MCC members?

As already mentioned, the ugly scene at the Long Room started post Jonny Bairstow‘s dismissal. At a pivotal moment, England lost Bairstow’s wicket due to Alex Carey throwing the ball at the stumps after the last ball of the over. It wouldn’t have caused much drama had Bairstow not walked off the crease even before the umpire declared it a dead ball.

Bairstow was unaware of the fact and simply left his crease after ducking a bouncer from Cameron Green. But from behind, Carey, the moment he got the chance, threw the ball at the stumps and dismiss the English batter to trigger the spirit of cricket debate.
