KKR vs CSK
Despite Jason Roy‘s scintillating innings and Rinku Singh‘s valuable contribution, something extraordinary was needed from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) camp to win the match because Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had given them a huge target of 236 to chase. KKR tried their best but failed to chase down the target and eventually lost the match by 49 runs on Sunday (April 23) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Chasing the target, KKR simply faltered in the beginning, for they lost their openers Narayan Jagadeesan and Sunil Narine for one and a duck respectively. Then to make things worse, Venkatesh Iyer and skipper Nitish Rana played sluggish innings. Iyer scored 20 off 20, while Rana took 20 balls to score 27 runs.
But Jason Roy was the man who came to the rescue with his blitzkrieg of 61 runs from just 26 balls. He batted at a monstrous strike rate of 234.62, plus his knock was also laced with five boundaries and the same number of sixes. He gave a glimmer of hope which was extinguished by Maheesh Theekshana in the 15th over. Theekshana’s dismissing Roy made KKR lose five of their batters.
But KKR would have balanced the momentum had Andre Russell’s bat also talked. But he played six balls only to score nine runs before Theekshana made him his another victim. Rinku Singh remained unbeaten but he alone couldn’t win the match for the KKR again. He slammed four sixes and three boundaries to score 53 runs from 33 balls at a strike rate of 160. Soon, the hosts found themselves short of overs and eventually lost the match by 49 runs.

Earlier during CSK’s innings, it was Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube who lit up the Eden Gardens with their brilliant half-centuries. Rahane scored an unbeaten 71 off 29 balls, while Dube had scored 50 runs from 21 balls, not to forget Devon Conway who also hammered his fourth back-to-back half-century, scoring 56 off 40 balls.
With this win, CSK leaped to the top position with five wins from seven matches, while KKR are eighth on the points table with just two wins from seven matches.
