Ireland and Scotland are squaring off against each other in the seventh Group match of the T20 World Cup on Wednesday [October 19] at the Blundstone Arena in Bellerive. With the help of Michael Jones’s sensational knock of 86 runs, Scotland put on a challenging total of 176/5.
Scotland won the toss and decided to bat first. The opening batters- George Munsey and Jones, walked out to bat, but the former’s inning was short-lived when Mark Adair dismissed him with an inswinger.
Matthew Cross smashed five fours to contribute 28 runs off 21 balls before Curtis Campher sent him back in the ninth over. Skipper Richie Berrington played a good knock of 37 runs off 27 balls (with three fours and a six) but got trapped by Campher’s fuller and slower ball. Berrington tried to push the ball towards the deep cover, but it went up in the air; George Dockrell comfortably caught it.
Jones is playing his third T20I, and he was dismissed in the 19th over by Joshua Little. Joshua delivered a fuller one on the middle, but Jones couldn’t connect well for a lofted shot; Mark Adair at the long one pouched it safely. Jones departed after an impressive knock of 86 runs off 55 balls, studded with six fours and four brilliant sixes at a strike rate of 156.36. It was also his maiden half-century knock in the sport’s shortest format.
In the end, Scotland gave a 177-run target to Ireland. Meanwhile, Campher picked up two wickets, while Joshua and Adair scalped one wicket each.
