Mitchell Johnson has been under fire by the entire cricketing community in Australia after he criticized David Warner. In an article that looked personal in nature, he questioned why Warner was still in the Test team despite his poor form and further added that the opener had disrespected the nation by getting a “hero’s farewell.”
Now Johnson’s comments have gotten him removed as a commentator from Triple M, a radio station. Johnson announced that he was going to be part of their panel, but when Triple M announced the panel he was missing. Former cricketers like Wasim Akram, Merv Hughes and Mark Taylor will be joining Triple M for their coverage of Pakistan’s tour of Australia.
Johnson has faced backlash by many of Warner’s teammates, like Usman Khawaja and Glenn Maxwell. Tim Paine said the former pacer made some valid points, but the personal nature of it ruined it. Along with that, he did not like the part when Johnson wrote about George Bailey.
Mitchell Johnson slams George Bailey
In the same column, Mitchell Johnson criticized George Bailey for his treatment of Tim Paine. When asked if he went through the article, Bailey said he got some snippets of it and hoped his former teammate was ok.
Johnson revealed in 2020 that he was diagnosed with depression and was fighting it. When Johnson heard about his response, he believed it was a dig on his mental health. On the Mitchell Johnson Cricket Show, he called Bailey’s comments disgusting as he believed he was downplaying the article.
To ask if I’m okay because I’ve had mental health issues is pretty much downplaying my article and putting it on mental health, which is quite disgusting, I think. It’s basically having a dig at someone’s mental health and saying that I must have something going on, a mental health issue has made me say what I have said. That’s not the truth. That’s completely the opposite. I’m actually clear-minded. I’m okay.Johnson said on Mitchell Johnson Cricket Show
Johnson confirmed that he was not jealous and angry at Bailey and Warner, stating that he was just trying to get his opinion across. He further added that Bailey being close with all players was not needed.
